PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, 1 in 12,000-15,000 births result in a baby diagnosed with Prader-Willi syndrome, the most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity, 

WHEREAS, it is estimated that approximately 75% of those who have PWS in the United States are undiagnosed and/or not known to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA),

WHEREAS, the good health and well-being of those with PWS, whether born with it or acquired through brain injury or trauma, are enhanced as a direct result of efforts to spread awareness about the syndrome,

WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the citizens of (your state/city/town) to work together as a people and as a (state/city/town) to increase research into understanding the syndrome, to advocate for effective screening, life-saving educational efforts in schools, medical institutions and establishments, and residential facilities, and to support the development of improved therapies for early intervention and other necessary and critical treatments, as well as the creation of more medical centers and residential facilities to care for those with PWS, and

WHEREAS, (your state/city/town) is pleased to join in recognizing and applauding the valuable role which families and advocates of those who have Prader-Willi syndrome play in helping our medical community to advance the fight against this syndrome, and

WHEREAS, the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA) and its chapters and affiliates provide superb programs, services, advocacy and research support.

NOW THEREFORE, I (your governor’s/mayor’s  name), (Governor/Mayor) of the (State/City/Town) of (your state/city/town), do hereby proclaim May as

Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness MONTH

And do commend this observance to all our citizens. I call upon Government officials, businesses, communities, health care professionals, educators, volunteers, and all the people of the (state/city/town) to continue our strong commitment to advancing awareness of and finding a cure for Prader-Willi syndrome.
